I’m not looking to make anyone mad, but have you noticed how expensive it is to run a church, or publish a magazine, or pay for missionaries, support an orphanage, or just about a million other things?
Have you noticed how many big time leaders from across the Christian spectrum have gotten into big trouble over money, got caught with their pants down, or went bankrupt?
Now, have you ever wondered what does this have to do with God? Me too. I wonder that all the time. As a Catholic I am subjected the arguments of one of the most bitterly divided churches on the planet, and honestly, I’m fed up.
With God? No.
With the Church? Not really, just religion in general. We build elaborate thought palaces and then base all our faith upon the results, then essentially forget about God and a personal relationship with God. I am not just talking about the Catholic Church, because the Protestant Churches are just as bad. Set your doctrine in stone, go by that, and then all is well.
NOT.
There is that pesky requirement that we be in active relationship with Jesus Christ. And that irks me right down to the bone. Why bother with religion at all if you do not develop a one on one relationship with the object of your worship? People get more riled up about whether or not you have the right thoughts then whether or not you have a good relationship with God!
For 2012 I resolve to stop caring if I or you or anyone else fits a doctrinal pattern that I or anyone else approves of. I think they are important, but I am not God so I do not get to make the decisions. Search you heart and find God in you, then think about the thought palaces of religion.
